Job Description

Orientation (New Staff Only):  July 6, 2022  /  Orientation (All Staff): July 7, 2022     

Program Dates:  July 11, 2022 - August 19, 2022

Coordinates, plans, prepares and monitors the development of Work-Based Learning Placements for students with special needs for their Special Education Program.  Provides training and technical assistance to high school staff, parents and students on issues related to work-based learning placements.

TYPICAL DUTIES: 

  1. Identify students in need of work-based learning placements and assist in locating and securing placements for the students in the ESY Program. 
  2. Educate students, parents, school district staff and community service providers about work-based learning opportunities and train each group to develop skills to assume their role in the work-based learning placement. 
  3. Schedule, convene and facilitate meetings, ensuring maximum involvement of the student, parent and community providers. 
  4. Develop and implement work-based learning goals, objectives and activities that present student/family goals, which are useful to school and agency staff and comply with state and federal mandates.
  5. Collaborate with community service and resource providers to ensure appropriate and effective linkages for students with disabilities.
  6. Provide professional consultation regarding students who fall under the IDEA regulations.
  7. Perform other such duties as may be assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a closely related field plus two years of experience as an employment specialist or job counselor working with the disabled or ina closely related field  OR Hold NYS Certification as a School Social Worker or School Counselor.

Required Experience: 1. Two years, minimum experience working with individuals with disabilities. 2. Knowledge and experience in transition planning for students with disabilities, job placements and job development at the secondary level.
