Job Description

The Director for Exceptional Children is responsible for the overall leadership of all programs and operations within the Department for Exceptional Children

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain an able-centered philosophy for all programs and services within the Department for Exceptional Children that embodies the policies of the State Education Department, the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, and participating school districts
  2. Plan, develop, and evaluate the quality of instructional programs and services through the use of multiple measures within the Department for Exceptional Children
  3. Provide direct supervision of all administrators within the Department for Exceptional Children and other assigned staff as directed
  4. Identify short and long-term goals for the Department for Exceptional Children, including partnerships with other departments within Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES
  5. Supervise department-wide staffing efforts and make employment recommendations to the Assistant Superintendents for Human Resources and Instructional Programs
  6. Provide fiscal development and management of program budgets to include staffing and unit cost recommendations ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational programs and services grounded in research-based best practices
  7. Collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate classroom space allocations, appropriate program calendars, transportation schedules, and data processing services
  8. Coordinate and facilitate all activities for the Department for Exceptional Children Administrative Council, Regional Committee of Pupil Personnel Services, and other advisory groups
  9. Provide collaborative leadership focused on the coordination of Special Education services provided by other departments within the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES organization
  10. Serve as active member of the SEPTO Executive Board and other community organizations as appropriate
  11. Prepare and submit quarterly executive summaries to the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Programs, using data/information to evaluate programs and services focusing on continuous improvement
  12. Provide data/information as requested by the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Programs to be used during negotiations with the officially organized bargaining units.
  13. Facilitate the development of grant proposals to support additional funding for program initiatives. 
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Programs
Job Qualifications

Experience:  3+ years of leadership experience required, with experience leading programs in special education strongly preferred

Certification:  New York State Certification as a School District Administrator required.  Certifications in Special Education or other Related Service Area strongly preferred
