- Job Description
Teaching industry aligned curriculum, designed to prepare students for transition to skilled employment and/or continued education in their chosen field (standards to include: NYS Common Core; ELA/Math, CDOS, CFM and Science).
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Develop, plan and implement curriculum and assessments aligned to criminal justice content, as well as Industry and NYS Learning Standards.
- Collaborate with academic teachers to integrate related literacy and social studies instruction.
- Collaborate with physical education teacher to provide students with weekly PE activities
- Develop relationships with industry partners and CTE Work Based Learning (WBL) Coordinators in order to create and monitor student work-based learning opportunities.
- Create and implement an effective classroom management plan that supports the department code of conduct and allows for appropriate computer use by students.
- Establish a safe learning environment with active supervision and proper use of all tools and equipment.
- Effectively utilize instructional technology including, but not limited to Schoology and Apex Officer VR system.
- Teach High School student the fundamentals of criminal justice through engaging activities and assignments. Assess and monitor student progress to guide instruction.
- Communicate with students, CTE colleagues, parents, component districts and when necessary, Special Education colleagues.
- Complete all record keeping functions related to the classroom. Including but not limited to grades, attendance, worked based learning hours, etc.
- Attend professional development, faculty meetings and establish and facilitate advisory committee meetings. Attend and assist with events such as open house and information night.
- Perform additional professionally related duties at the request of CTE administration.
- Job Qualifications
Significant experience (2-4 years) in the criminal justice continuum is required. This includes, but is not limited to: law enforcement, courts, corrections, probation/parole, etc. Extensive connections to law enforcement and other justice agencies within Monroe County is required. Ability to be approved by local colleges to offer criminal justice dual enrollment courses is required. Additional industry coursework and/or certifications, as well as NYS DCJS trainer certification is preferred. New York State Teacher Certification in Security Operations 7-12 or ability to earn NYS certification (Requirements: Associates degree plus 2 full yrs. full-time experience in the field for which certification is sought or HS diploma and 4 yrs. full-time experience in the field for which certification is sought).
